Meet support assistant Sally-Ann

Sally-Ann has spent almost 20 years in the care industry and loves her job and the variety each day brings.

What does your typical day look like?

“Busy! My day usually starts by getting residents up, washed, dressed and breakfast. Then throughout the day I keep the residents entertained, I spend all my time with the residents, reading stories and listening to music for example.”

What got you into working in the care industry?

“I looked after my nana with dementia. I’ve always been a caring person and I wanted to care for others in the same situation.”

What do you love about your job role?

“I absolutely love that every day is different. The times where your rewards are reading stories, it’s the small things.”

What are the tough sides to the job?

“Staffing plays a huge part, the job isn’t easy. It’s all down to getting to know the resident and building that rapport. I think you need to be a certain type of person to work in the sector and it’s not an easy option.”

What would you say to others who are looking to join the industry?

“The roles are only suitable for a particular person, you have to be caring and patient.”

Is there career progression in the industry?

“If you want career progression there are so many opportunities if you want to progress. There are so many courses available and roles to progress into.”

What is it like to work for Jervaulx?

“They’re like a little family and the residents always come first.”
