Pree joined Olam as a marketing apprentice after completing a degree in graphic design. Though she wasn’t originally looking for an apprenticeship, she saw the opportunity to bring her creative skills into advertising and marketing within the care sector, two areas she felt went hand in hand.
What does your typical day look like?
“No two days are the same! My role involves supporting with the management of the marketing for Olam working from their office, but also completing care plans and supporting the wider team. It’s a nice mix of responsibilities that keeps every day interesting.”
What did you do previously and why the career change?
“I didn’t think there would be a place for someone creative in the care industry. My background is in graphic design, but I wanted to be more hands-on in a role that allowed me to use my creativity while also making an impact. That’s what led me here.”
What do you love about your job role?
“I love that I get to meet and connect with people through this role; it’s fun getting to know someone you’ve never met before and when you finally meet them it’s like all the pieces fitting together.”
What was your perception of the industry before you joined, and what is it now?
“My perception has definitely changed. Before, I didn’t realise how much creative potential there was in the care industry, but now I see how much it’s growing and evolving. There are so many opportunities, even for creative people like me.”
Did you ever think you’d work in the care industry?
“No, not at all. But I’m glad that I’ve gotten this opportunity to experience the care industry now, I feel like part of Olam’s family here.”
What’s the most rewarding part of your job?
“Knowing I’m making my own difference, I can really show the work of carers and how much of a positive impact they make in people’s lives and I love it. It’s nice to know that we make a real difference in families lives.”
