Sinikiwe has been a care assistant for 2 years at SNE Care and has been inspired to care for people after looking after her diabetic sister.
What does your typical day look like?
“I wake up around 6 am and visit my first client at 6.30 am, supporting my client in every way I can. My morning calls usually last from 6.30 till 11 am and are around an hour a call. I carry out personal care and prepare their food. After a lunch break, I then head to my afternoon calls. Depending on how many calls I have in the day, I could be working till the early evening.
“I love building relationships with my clients and enjoy socialising with them to make their day better.”
What do you love about your job role?
“I was inspired to get into care after looking after my sister with diabetes. I wanted to help others, to make their lives easier. For me, the job is very rewarding. I really enjoy my job, because we get to know different people, we get to laugh, talk and offer companionship.”
What would you say to others looking to join the industry?
“I’d say do it! Care work is really good when you’re doing care, you’re gaining experience and education. It’s given me life skills, which have enabled me to care for myself and my family.”
Is there career progression in the sector?
“There is a lot of career progression, SNE really encourages you to progress and gain further qualifications to achieve higher-level roles.”
What do you enjoy most about working for SNE Care?
The staff are supportive, I’ve made great friends through working here and met a lot of amazing people as clients too.
