Sammed has recently moved careers to become a care assistant for SNE Care and is loving every moment.
What does your typical day look like?
“Every day is different, however, I usually start the day first thing in the morning and have 4 different calls throughout the day. Morning, lunch, tea and bed calls. I usually see around 8-9 clients a day and administer personal care, meal preparation and medications. I also take clients out shopping or for walks around their local area.”
What did you do previously and why the career change?
“I am new to the care industry and have only worked at SNE Care for 6 months. I used to work in hospitality in a restaurant setting, as an assistant manager and loved meeting lots of new people. I also volunteer in my local community temple, helping to feed around 300 people, so I wanted to continue helping people through care.
I am passionate about caring and helping to better people’s lives.”
What do you love about your job?
“I love that it can be quite challenging, it’s helped me grow and learn as a person. I love supporting the community, building relationships and improving their quality of life. I really love taking my clients for walks or out in the community to help them stay connected to their local area.”
What would you say to others looking to join the industry?
“Care can be difficult; however, it’s very rewarding and feels great to help support someone and make their life better. If you have a passion for your community and to care for others, you should join! People misunderstand what carers do, but it’s a very rewarding job, especially when I remember that some clients only have me visiting.”
What are the tough sides to the job?
“A lot of the time, you are alone whilst driving to see your clients, depending on where you get based. I don’t mind this as I love driving and helping the community, but this could be challenging for someone who doesn’t enjoy that.”
What do you enjoy most about working for SNE Care?
“The support from management is great, they help me to learn and progress within my role. We feel like a big family.”
